Courgette Romanesco Seeds produce plants which are considered to be one of the best flavours of any courgette. They produce fruits with an attractive, unusual, ridge running along the fruits and are an Italian favourite, with a distinct robust flavour. They are an excellent source of vitamin C.

Sow Indoors

For the surest results, sow indoors, 1.5cm (½") deep, on edge, in small plant pots of compost. water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20C (60-68F) is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-14 days. Gradually accustom courgette plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 60cm (2') apart, when frosts are over.

Sow Outdoors

Sow outdoors, for ease, where the courgette plants are to crop, 1.5cm (½") deep into finely prepared soil, which has previously been watered. Allow 60cm (2') between sowing postions. Sow two seeds on edge per position. Early sowings benefit from cloche protection. Thin to leave the stronger plant. Water well until the plants are established. Cut the cougettes when they are about 15cm (6") long or leave to mature as marrows.
