Our Secatuers section is split into three departments; Bypass Secateurs, Anvil Secateurs and Secateur Sets. The Bypass Secateurs are designed to be used on green or living stems and branches, whereas the Anvil Secateurs are best used on dead wood and stems. However, for those just wanting a single, general pupose secateur then the Bypass Secateurs are probably the best to do both jobs. Bypass Loppers work very much like a large pair of scissors, having two cutting blades. The are best used on green of living stems and branches, where they make a good clean cut, that very quickly heals. Whereas Anvil Loppers have just one cutting blade, which meets with a flat plate or anvil, and are best used on dead or non growing wood. The Telescopic Loppers, are avaiolable as both Bypass and Anvil type Loppers, but have extending handles allowing a much longer reach . The often have a slightly large cutting capacity due to the leverage available with longer handles.

The Telescopic Tree Pruners are long handled tree pruners that can be used closed, however, the real advantage is that when extended they greatly increase the reach available and provide access to previously out of reach branches. We stock a good range of saws, from some of the very best manufacturers, for use in garden, both pruning saws and bow saws. All these saws are quality products that will give many years of troubleless service.

Pruning Saws are ideal for small pruning jobs where speed and accessibility are considerations. A Pruning Saw can very quickly deal with dead or diseased boughs and branches or pruning to create a tree with an open habit. They are very useful, due to there small size, for getting into cramped or confined trees and areas. The Bow Saws are intended for sawing larger or thicker branches. They can also be used for firewood cutting.

The Pruning Saws and Bow Saws, we feature, offer a range of cutting options based on the job undertaken, size requirements and users preference and strength.

There are generally two different types of garden rakes, the Soil Rake and the Lawn Rake. The Soil Rake is used to level and break up the soil surface before planting and for gathering garden debris. The Lawn rake is generally used on lawns to remove dead grass and moss but can also be used of the collection of leaves.

There is third type of rake, namely the Leaf Rake. This is similiar to the Lawn rake but has been specially designed to deal with troublesome leaves, particularly the autumnal fall. They generally have large plastic, flexible heads and make light work of creating piles of leaves.

You will find garden rakes made in the traditional manner, with wooden shafts and carbon steel heads, to the more modern variety with lightweight aluminium shafts and stainless steel heads.

We stock three different types of Garden Hoes, the Dutch Hoe, the Draw Hoe and the Swoe, or Angled Hoes. Our range of Garden Hoes, come from some of the very best names in garden tools, such as Spear & Jackson, Wilkinson Sword and Fiskars.

The Dutch Hoe is intended to sever weeds from their roots and is great for working on larger plots, where it quickly and easily deals with weeds. The hoe is used in a cutting action, either on or just below the soil surface, and severed weeds can either be collected or left to wilt in the sun.

The Draw Hoe again can be used to remove weeds but has the added benefit that it can be used to draw up and work the soil. It is a great tool for earthing up rows of potatoes and takes much of the back breaking work out.

The Angled Hoe, or Swoe, is used in a similiar way to the Dutch Hoe, but perhaps due to its lightness has slightly more control and is better for weeding in confined spaces.

Lawn Aerators, especially hollow tine lawn aerators, help to remove thatch and let air into the soil, which is particularly useful for lawns that have suffered compation through repeated use, and they therefore help to encourage good root growth. Lawn Aerators are also very good at improving drainage.

On very small lawns aerating may be done with a garden fork, but for most lawns, and certainly those undertaking this task on a regular basis, a purpose-built lawn aerator makes it easier and speedier.
