Perlite

Perlite, particularly, horticultural perlite has been used for many years by gardeners and growers. Perlite offers numerous benefits to gardeners and can be invaluable for those with heavy soils when used as a growing medium.

Perlite is incredibly light in weight and is therefore used extensively to loosen and lighten heavy soils and composts for plants that require a free draining medium. Furthermore, it can be used to great success with root cuttings, whereby it can be mixed with compost to produce a light growing medium with much less chance of the cuttings rotting off, which is caused, amongst other things, by compost that is too wet.

Horticultural Perlite can make a considerable difference to heavy, wet and unproductive soil, producing a much lightweight, free draining medium, providing better growing conditions for most plants and cuttings.
