Secateurs and Pruners

Bypass Secateurs, or Pruners, work in very much the same way as a pair of scissors, with two blades passing each other to make the cut. Generally, Bypass Pruners can be used for most medium sized pruning jobs, typically on branches up the 20mm in diameter. Where bigger branches need to be cut, loppers are best used.

Anvil Secateurs work differently from Bypass Secateurs, in that instead of two cutting blades they just have the one, which closes onto a flat surface, hence the name, Anvil Secateurs. Generally, Anvil Pruners can be used for most light to medium pruning jobs, typically on branches up the 20mm in diameter. Where bigger branches need to be cut, loppers are best used.
