First Early Seed Potatoes

Generally, First Earlies can be planted from January to March and would be ready to harvest from May to July. However, this is dependant on weather conditions and is likely to vary slightly from season to season. First Early potatoes should be planted in rows, about 1ft (30cm) between tubers and 2ft (60cm) between rows.

First Early Potatoes are the first of the year and take between 10 weeks from planting to harvest. They are ideal for growing in tubs and potato planters.

First Early potatoes produce the classic New Potatoes that are so eagerly awaited as first potatoes of the year. We are currently supplying Casablanca, Pentland Javelin and Rocket seed potatoes, three of the very best available.

Second Early Seed Potatoes

Second Earlies are planted out from about February to March and are harvested from July to October. Again, this is dependant on weather conditions and is likely to vary slightly from season to season. Second Early potatoes should be planted in rows, allowing about 1½ft (45cm) between tubers and 2½ft (75cm) between rows.

Second Early Potatoes take approximately 13-14 weeks from planting to harvest. They are ideal for growing in tubs and potato planters.

Main Crop Seed Potatoes

Main Crop Potatoes are planted out from March to May and can be harvested from September to October. They are planted in rows allowing about 2ft (60cm) between tubers and 2½ft (75cm) between rows.

With Main Crop Potatoes, from sowing to harvest is usually 15-18 weeks.

Main Crop Potatoes are usually grown to full maturity and produce larger potatoes and harvests than either of the two Early types.
