Jermor Autumn Planting Shallot Bulbs - 10 Bulbs

Ref: VP120

Price: £2.99

Quantity:

Jermor Autumn Planting Shallot Bulbs are a French 'longue' shallot, bred in the southern Rhone area yet grows well in our climate. It is highly rated for its superb flavour and classic 'Jersey longue' shape.

Shallots are highly praised for their flavour with many chefs choosing them over onions for their sweeter taste. Unlike onions, where each plant normally forms a single bulb, shallots divide into multiple sections, similar to garlic. Shallots are an excellent source of vitamin C, potassium, dietary fibre and folic acid. They also contain calcium, iron and have a high protein quality.

Jermor Shallots are very easy to grow, from sets, and have a beatiful copper colour with rosy flesh.

Pack of 10 Bulbs.

How to Grow Shallot Bulbs

Site:

Choose an open sunny site prefably with some shelter from strong winds. On heavy clay soils or sites prone to waterlogging, plant on a slightly raised bed.

Plant:

Plant February to April 15cm (6in) between bulbs, 30-40cm (12-16in) between rows. Prepare the soil and remove any weeds. Remove any long 'tails' and plant the bulbs so that only the tip is protruding above the soil, so that birds are less likely to uproot them. Water the soil if necessary until the plants are established.

Harvest and Storage:

Lift when the foliage turns yellow and allow to dry out before storing in a frost free place in trays or nets.
