Broad Bean Seeds - Aguadulce - Mr Fothergill's

Ref: 3092

Price: £2.19

Quantity:

The best variety for autumn/winter sowing. Extremely hardy, it produces a very early crop of fine long pods each containing 8-9 beans.

Grow in a warm, sheltered position. Broad beans thrive on a rich, well-dug soil, although most soils will give a satisfactory crop. If possible, feed the soil before sowing with a general fertiliser. The best variety for autumn/winter sowing.

Sow:
Sow late October-November or through to January if soil conditions permit, 2in (5cm) deep. It is usual to grow them in double rows 12in (30cm) apart allowing 9in (25cm) between seeds. If more than one double row is to be sown, allow 2ft (60cm) between them. Cloches can provide extra protection from severe weather. Hoe regularly to keep down weeds and water well during dry spells. Pinch out the tops of plants when bottom pods are 3-4in (7-10cm) long - this will encourage an earlier crop of well filled pods and will help to deter blackfly.

Harvest:

From June onwards.

Average contents: 50 seeds.
