One of the earliest ball-headed summer cabbages. Ideal for the smaller garden, as the firm compact heads may be grown more closely together than many other varieties. Excellent in salads. Cabbages like a deeply dug, well cultivated soil.

Sow:

March-May, half-inch (1.5cm) deep in a seed bed or trays of seed compost. Keep moist. Transplant in June-July to final position, spacing 15in (40cm) apart each way. Plant firmly and water well until established.

Harvest:

July-September.
