Common soil deficiencies
Boron deficiency is first noticed as leaf tip yellowing or brittleness. Boron is essential for cell growth and pollination.
Copper deficiency results in cupping or chlorosis of new leaves. Copper is essential for photosynthesis.
Iron is noticeable as yellowing or whitening of leaves (chlorosis). Iron is used for enzyme and chlorophyll production and nitrogen fixing.
Manganese is essential for plant growth and metabolism. Lack of manganese results in the same symptoms as lack of iron (see above).
A lack of molybdenum results in a build up of nitrate, seen as pale coloured leaves (chlorosis).
Plant and leaf growth is stunted by zinc deficiency as zinc helps the plant produce chlorophyll.
